I benefited from this album tremendously, I don't know where to begin. I was bought it 6 years ago for my birthday when things weren't all plain sailing. 'Appetite' gave me the courage and the shot of adrenaline I needed to stand up for what I believed in... and to pick up a guitar. 2 years ago I lost my brother in a road acident and it was up to me to choose music for the funeral. I sat through 4 hours of top 100 rock bands of all time....Paradise City came on and I knew this was one was for him...where the grass is green and the girls are pretty, the Crem rocked!!!! A true classic album, every track is a great SONG. Not a single moment of filler..just pure energy and ROCK. The album is so chock-full of ideas, that one single song could contain more riffs/killer refrains/melody lines than most bands can manage in a whole album, hell, a whole career even. I am so glad that people are rightly looking back at this album as a seminal piece of work. To me the following albums Use You Illusion I II were no where near Appetite for raw power - I guess adding pianos and soft focus videos is where Axl strayed from the roots that make this album so utterly compelling from start ot finish. One of the few albums (along with efinately Maybe) that seriously changed my outlook on music and holds a place so dear in my heart. Always reminds of playing it in my mums car when I was 14, and having to alter the volume whenever Axl swore. Unfortunately Mr. Brownstone introduced her to the word 'motherfu****' and I had to pass it off as something else. Thanks to this album I learned guitar and got my own Gibson Les Paul like Slash, but the rock dream never materialised for me. Just as well I can live it through this album. Oh yes. It's great to hear an authority like the Beeb, and Zane, confirm exactly what I've been saying for the past 20 years! BritRock at the time was sounding a little tired and was pretty much regurgitating the same sound it had been for the previous 10 years. Stateside, rock music was becoming dominated by either sugary, teeny-bop-rock e.g Bon Jovi or OTT, pretty-boy 'Glam' in the form of Poison et al. I was 12 when the classic Appetite came out, was listening to Debbie Gibson etc until i first heard and saw Guns N Roses on TV, blew me away, i was one of the first in my school to hear the album and it opened my horizons, changed my life. Still get goose bumps at the closing chord of Rocket Queen (surely the most under-rated rock track), and the intro to Welcome is only surpassed by the intro to Angel of Death as an album opener. Cracking album made before Axel lost it and forced this great band into doing second class coveres. Sweet Child of Mine is a stand out track that never grows old and most of the other tracks are top draw. Zane, this album is incredible, an excellent band and musicians, with the piercing vocals of Axl rose and the melodic guitar riffs and solos of Slash what more could you ask for! This album has stayed with me from the age of 11 through to date (32years old!), it is still in my car now!!! I took the guitar up at aged 10 and still play I love Hendrix/Page/Gilmour and so on, but this alblum caused me to form my own band, rebel, grow long corkscrew curly hair, wear skin tight jeans, cut down T-shirts with some sort of profanity on them, biker or cowboy boots and ofcourse learn the album note for note!!!! I remember being told off at school for defacing my books with G N'R and the skull and top hat of slash, even in Uni I would blast this album whilst writting my reports!! Whilst in the sixth form, I worked in a pub collecting glasses for several years, I had saved up enough money to buy a brand new original Gibson Les Paul Standard and Marshall JCM 900 Stack, I slung the guitar nice and low and entered the world of, loud music, Marlboro and Jack Daniels! Slash is my favourite guitarist of all time and this album has some of the best ever riffs of all time! I was fortunate to see them in Wembley in 1992 and at Milton Keynes in 1994, I saw Velvet Revolver a few year back in Hammersmith. A landmark in rock 'n roll. What's particularly interesting about this album is that it did not offer anything new or groundbreaking. It did however offer an infectious gnarly attitude and a glorious 'f*ck you' to society. As a teenager it absolutely pressed ALL my buttons. It was locked into my WALKMAN for years and I still remember the first time I heard 'Welcome to The Jungle' and being blown away. Appetite and it's subsequent tour ended with G n' R being branded as 'The Most Dangerous Band in the World.' There simply was nothing as exciting as this record and this band in the late '80s. i didnt discover G'n'R, until 91, and the use your illusions ablums where out, as was only 9 in 87. loved them and then purchased back catalogue, and my mind was blown away. paradise city is the song which inspired my to first pick up an accustic. still play through paradise almost 20 years later, and still get goose bumps, when i get it right. still remember vividly the live gig at gateshead. like many others, wish the old guns would get back together, as am not intrested in the modern genre of pretenders, playing in a band they are not worthy of calling themselves.Dale, Newcastle

Appetite is at all times a raw, honest, defunc and as stereotypical as rock can get but only in the best way. It is truly the most interesting and unforgiving rock masterpiece. All the players were blatantly at their peeks and never bettered than on this record. How they may have been fueled there energy, be it Nightrain, heroin, jealousy, sobriety or just plain love you feel it through the rawness of the slashs guitar and axls angst. I 've just bought an old banger that only has a cassette machine. To my joy I found my old Appetite tape (18 years old!) which I have been playing non stop to and from work. This is how all albums should be. No 20 track experimental rubbish. Just quickfire songs that show off a band at their peak. Memories - My first gig with my band at school in 1991 and we played a cover of Sweet Child. Pure Joy. Travelling from Glasgow to Gateshead to see the Gunners and 20 bus loads of rockers invading the town of Gretna for a loo stop. Excellent choice; a true masterpiece. Remember putting the record on and being stunned by the power and raw energy of the band's performance. This was the real deal - a band who lived the life they sang about. Axl's vocals on Jungle tore into you with their aggression and the sleaze fairly oozed out of the speakers. Just as you got used to the aural assault, he turned around and broke your heart with the vulnerability of Sweet Child. I was hooked from that moment and, a couple of decades later, still am. Saw them in 2006 and they played the songs like they were on fire. Axl's a genius and Chinese Democracy will hit the music world with a thunderbolt, just as Appetite did.Kim, London

Best album ever made. This is how rock music should be done. Never equalled and never bettered. It doesnt gets stale and I can listen to it over and over again. The sound of raw emotion and sheer rock debauchery. Axl sounds great, and the band were on fire. The just isnt a better rock guitarist out there than Slash and this showcases his talents to the max. Takes me back to my youth everytime I hear it. I cant say much more than that I absolutely love it.
