London-listed betting and gaming operator 888 Holdings is using artificial intelligence (AI) to recover funds from bot accounts, with its 888poker brand on track to return almost $300,000 of refunds to its players this year.

888poker has made progress in tackling the issue of bots, which use software programming to create unfair advantages over real-life players. During the first few months of 2022, 888poker has already refunded $80,858 to 1,390 players, taking the total amount refunded to players since last year to almost $300,000.

This progress has been driven by 888poker’s investment in improving its detection capabilities since the implementation of the new technology, as part of its broader efforts to ensure a safe, fair and enjoyable poker experience for all of its players.

Over the course of 2021, 888poker increased the headcount of its team focused on fair gaming, further developed its tech monitoring software, and hired a number of leading data scientists and professional poker players to work alongside the team to detect bots and Real Time Advisors (RTA).

Different poker games

The vast majority of online sites offer Texas Hold’em. It is, without doubt, the most played internet poker game across the world. You’ll find lots of flavours of Hold’em, such as Omaha Hold’em and Omaha Hi Lo.

Whereas Hold’em has five community cards and two personal cards in the hole, some other variants have different card distribution.

Perhaps the best-known alternative is 7 card stud, one of the classic poker games. Players get three hold cards, and four communal cards.

There are also two types of games - “Sit n Go” and cash games. If you’ve deposited cash and are therefore playing with your own “real” money, you can join or leave a cash game whenever you want, whether you’ve lost or won.

Sit n Gos are different. There’s a fixed buy-in and everyone starts with the same sized stack. They usually last from 20 minutes to an hour, although there are very fast “turbo” versions.

World leading online betting and gaming company, 888, has announced that it has partnered with ECOSEC, the provider of tamper evident security solutions, to use its biodegradable poker chip bags at all upcoming 888LIVE events, starting with 888poker LIVE Barcelona, from 12th – 23rd May.

Ahead of the event in Barcelona, 888poker will replace the essential, secure bags which were previously used with ECOSEC’s biodegradable, tamper evident bags made from a Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), which has an additive that makes the plastic oxo-biodegradable. This will enable all players at the tournament to continue to store their accumulated chips in a safe and secure way, without the use of single-use plastic.
